Round 16: Old Brighton Seniors v Old Scotch
Included in this week’s team were Michael Slater, Andy Doyle, Alfie Jarnestrom and Jack Toouli replacing Will Lewis, Felix Flockart, Rueben Hayward and Caspar Tremlett all due to injury
A terrific start to the game with very good contest and pressure all over the ground and Jack Toouli excerting his influence by providing the Tonners with a strong target, getting 2 goals himself and helping the team to get 5 goals a good lead at quarter time. The teams work rate and pressure around the ball was very good again in the 2nd Quarter and enabled us to have 10 scoring shots to 4, however a big knock to Andy Doyle early in the quarter resulted in him leaving the field and not being able to return which left us without our main Ruckman for the remainder of the game. Jandre Olivier was called upon to play a lone hand in the ruck and took on 3 Old Scotch rucks over 3 quarters and competed well against bigger bodied players.
The 3rd quarter saw a change in conditions with a strong wind favouring the end to which Scotch were kicking and losing Michael Slater to injury at the 2 minute mark of the quarter left an already depleted team down to just 2 players on the bench and with 4 dubious free kick decisions which resulted in opposition goals and the physical toll eventually wearing the players down, we eventually went down on the scoreboard by 14 points having 1 more scoring shot and playing with great effort until the end
This week we travel to St Kevins to play the top side and would be great to see as many people as possible get to TH King oval to support the team
Final Scores
Old Brighton 12 goals 12 (84)
Old Scotch 15 goals 8 (98)
