Round 16: Old Brighton Fourths V Camberwell

On the weekend the 4ths successfully embodied the mantra of ‘anytime, anyplace, anywhere’, successfully defeating a strong Camberwell side in their own backyard. The difficulties throughout the week, in regard to organising a home final, clearly served as strong motivation for the players as we started well, with Jeremy Booth goaling early. The second quarter saw a continued effort from the boys, to stop opposition attack and capitalise on forward moment. The halftime score read, Camberwell 3.6 – 14 to the Tonners’ 4.2 – 26. The most pleasing display came in the 3rd quarter, affectionally known as the premiership quarter, with the boys down back putting in a strong shift. This effort was despite our fearless leader abandoning ship halfway through the quarter, with the Iron Dome jet setting up to the Sunny state to meet ‘buckets’ Micari for a weekend of fun. Any worries felt by supporters following the Dome’s departure were quickly alleviated by Tommy Kenny, who grasped at the chance to lead our brave boys down back. The efforts of our defence were matched by those in attack, who proved to be more lethal than a Navy Seal Sniper. From limited chances, the boys converted near on every entry to ensure a dominant Camberwell quarter was even in the scorer’s book. The 4th quarter became the Steven Stavrellis Show, with one Old Brighton supporter suggesting he should ask his opponent whether he was paying cash or credit for his expensive front row seats. Following a 3-quarter time spray, Stav took the game by the scruff of the neck, scoring two important majors to ensure an Old Brighton victory. The successful performance grants the boys a week-off and a golden ticket to the Grand Final in a couple weeks’ time. Whilst the opponent or location is not yet known, one thing for sure is that the boys will play anytime, anyplace, and anywhere.

Old Brighton 9.3 – 57 defeated Old Camberwell 6.8 – 44
