Round 16: U19’s Old Brighton v St.Kevins

Saturday 6th August.

The u/19s played St. Kevin’s at Beach Road Oval on Saturday in excellent conditions. The odds were against us as we entered the game with only 21 players including a few injury concerns.
The game was a real tug of war all day, tight and tense with St. Kevin’s holding a 7 point lead at three quarter time. Despite only having 19 fit players The lads dug deep as the ball was deep in the SKOBS forward for large portions of the last quarter but our defence was resolute and incredibly we restricted the opposition to one solitary point. With 3 minutes remaining, we hit the lead with a point and the last few minutes was nail biting, desperate stuff. Leo “ Barry “ Reid marked in the last desperate seconds and goal on the siren after a 50 meter penalty was awarded.
It was easily our best win of the season, brave and courageous and we now have great momentum and energy going forward. The team can look back at this game with great pride and be confident that we were able to close out a tight contest.
This week we play St Bernard’s at home at 9.20 am. A win will secure a finals berth so come down and support the team.
