Round 13: OBGFC Fourths v Whitefriars

The mighty 4th’s looked to continue their good run of form against Whitefriars under lights at the home of football on Saturday.

Boosted by a strong turnout to training midweek, the boys seized on the opportunity to implement the new game style, getting off to a strong start. Chris Webster gave the balcony plenty to cheer about, marking strongly inside the forward 50. However, he was unable to convert, with one chance being controversially ruled touched off the boot. Despite Webby’s claims of daylight between ball and finger, the field umpire decided that if the man in goals is allowed to adjudicate in the courtroom, he was certainly equipped with knowledge required to officiate the big sticks.

Heading into the halftime break the scoreboard read OBGS 3.5 23 to Whitefriars 1.4 10. Following the halftime break and with the Judge relieved of his duties, Webster became a man possessed, clearing buoyed by the promise of more lenient sentencing. Despite this, Webby’s luckless streak continued, and he was unable to put 6 points on the board for the tonners. Fortunately, the same woes were not felt by Steven Stavrellis or Max Capp who effectively combined for 5 majors.

Down the other end of the ground, Hugo Butler continued to lead the side courageously, quelling opposition attack more effectively than Israel’s Iron Dome. In the centre the ever-reliable James Curtis was clearly happy to have his midfield partner (Will Bullock) back, with the two forming a deadly duo as Batman and Robin. The final score read OBGS 7.8 50 to Whitefriars 2.8 20.

Goals: Stavrellis 3, Capp 2, Fisher and Gunter

Bests: Stavrellis, Gunter, Curtis, Capp, Bullock and Butler
