Covid Update: June 16 - Play on!

Below is a statement from Brett Connell – VAFA CEO

By now you have all heard the news re: the easing of restrictions across the state.

While it is certainly great news that we will be returning to the field, there are still some restrictions in place – refer below high-level changes and attached table of restrictions for more detail.

Media Release: https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/statement-acting-premier-4

High level the changes are:

  • 25km travel restrictions have been lifted

  • No spectators can attend matches this weekend

  • Metro community sport competition for seniors and juniors can resume with the minimum number of people required to participate and facilitate the activity, no more than 50 people indoors at one time

  • In line with the announcements, we suggest canteens can operate (if clubs choose to do so) as they are take-away only (in line with hospitality advice) and should only be in operation to provide for the minimum number of people required to participate and facilitate the activity

  • We are seeking further clarification in relation to social facilities

The VAFA, through AFL Victoria, will continue to advocate to the Government for further easing of restrictions for next week.

In terms of updating Return to Play protocols, AFL Victoria need to officially wait for the new Restricted Activity Directions (RAD) to be released on Friday by the Chief Health Officer. At this stage, based on past Govt timeframes for these updates, we are expecting to have the RTP Protocols to you by midday this Friday.
