Under 19’s Grand Final Old Brighton v Old Xavierians, 18th September

Old Brighton 5 6 36 were defeated by Old Xavierians 8 8 56

The u/19s played Old Xavs in the Premier Division Grand Final on Sunday September 18, the first time in the clubs’ history that an u/19 team has reached such heights. Due to the quagmire that existed at Elsternwick Park the game was transferred to Toorak Park, the home ground of Old Xaverians !
The first half was a tight contest with Xavs holding a 2 point lead at halftime. The overall depth and bigger bodies of Xavs gradually gave them the edge as the game wore on and at the final siren, Xavs were victorious to the tune of 22 points.
Our lads can hold their heads high as we never gave up or took a backward step at every contest, we fought it out to the final siren. Despite the bitterness of the defeat the overriding emotion is one of pride and feeling blessed to be a part of a group of beautiful, talented young men. I am truly thankful for the experience.
It would be remiss of me not to thank Stu Kay as assistant and Jamie as team manager, they performed their roles over and above my expectations and l am grateful for their presence and the friendships that were strengthened by the year that we all shared. Thanks also to our President in Shane Young who fully supported our team and introduced the lads to a great culture that exists at the club. Thanks to all involved.

Goals: Howard 3, Hathway 1, Flockart 1

Best : Howard, Burnell, Caldwell, Macgowan, Wood, Fisher
