2022 Season to date: Fourths

The first half of the season has been hugely successful for the 4ths side.

Currently sitting second on the ladder, we are 6-1 having lost in a close game to the top side. The boys started their season with a dominant performance against Whitefriars, overcoming any first game rust to win by 82 points.

The joy of the first win was short-lived as we took on Camberwell in our first home game. Presenting us with different challenges, the larger and older Camberwell side took advantage of a poor first half to put us under significant pressure heading into the last quarter. However, there were encouraging signs as the boys fought back and narrowed the margin to a measly 11 points.

If it wasn’t for poor goal kicking the result could have looked very different, with Old Brighton having 20 shots on goal (4.16) to Camberwell’s 15 (7.9). To the credit of the players, the loss has fuelled the rest of the season so far, as we have gone on to win 5 in a row.

From a coaching perspective, the most rewarding aspect of the season to date has been the improvement of the players. The past 5 weeks has seen the boys grow in confidence, with some now playing their best football in recent years. We are ultimately very well placed for the second half of the season and if we continue to improve the way we have been, there are no limits to what we can achieve this year.

Despite this on-field success there has been some logistical challenges, particularly with finding umpires. As such, if anybody is keen on a bit of extra money or just wants to help the club, can they please get it contact with myself or the club directly.
