Weekend Results - Round 5, 2021
Another magnificent week for the football club with 4/6 wins.
The Tonner Women kicked the day off in brilliant style with huge win over Williamstown. Cat O’Brien kicked five goals in a best on ground performance and was ably supported by Ava Hales with 4 goals of her own.
Next up were Roscoe’s Reserves who put up one of their best performances of the season but ultimately fell three points short to ladder leaders Old Melburnians. Levi Otto was impressive with four goals on his birthday, as were veterans Luke Healy & Cal Macleod. Cries of “Andy Andy show them some candy” were reported to ring out around Brighton Beach Oval as the man from the Wild West, Andy Doyle, continued his good form in the ruck.
The Seniors battled hard against Old Melburnians in what was an arm-wrestle of a contest all day. Only one point separated the two teams at 3QT, but the Tonners powered home with four goals to two in the last quarter to secure a 12-point victory, and the top spot on the Premier ladder. Former captain, Dylan Verney, was best on ground after another inspiring performance in defence. Jack Watts kicked two goals in his first home game for the club.
The action continued under lights with the Under 19’s taking on St. Kevin’s in a twilight fixture. Brian’s Boys continued their good form, putting the Saints away by 25 points. They now sit two games clear inside the top four, but face a challenging next two weeks against ladder leaders Old Xaverians & Caufield Grammarians.
Elsewhere, the Fourths made their historic debut against South Melbourne at 9.20am. The day was made even more memorable thanks to the boys securing a 16-point win. Tom Haddon was named best afield, while Max Capp slotted three goals. Well done to all involved.
Lastly, the Thirds continued their difficult start to the season, getting out-muscled by an experienced Trinity side at out Bulleen. It was a dirty day for the Showmen, with injuries to Thomas Burns, Geordie McPherson & Josh Snowsill. We wish them all the best and will continue to support them with their recoveries. In particular our thoughts are with Thomas Burns who suffered a second concussion for the season and must now sit out the rest of the year.
