Results - Round 2, 2021

It was great to have the Old Brighton community back at Brighton Beach Oval in number for the Seniors, Reserves & Under 19’s first home games in almost 18 months.

The day kicked off well with the Under 19’s knocking off St. Bernard’s. The Snow Dogs jumped out of the gates with the first 3 goals of the game, but from there it was all the Tonners who eventually kicked ahead to an 18-point win.

It was a tough day for the Ressies who competed hard in all four quarters and owned a larger share of the play than the scoreboard suggests, but who were ultimately outclassed by a St Kevin’s side that used the ball extremely well. Congratulations to Cal Macleod (captain) who played his 100th game for the club. An outstanding achievement.

The Seniors took it right up to a powerful SKOB side, kicking 5 unanswered goals in a barnstorming third quarter to lead by 22 points at 3QT. The last quarter went all the way of St. Kevin’s, however, as they piled on 4.7 to the Tonners’ 1.0. A very disappointing loss in the end, with plenty to review and work hard on during the week.

Our Women’s team had a draw with reigning undefeated premiers, Old Scotch, out at Camberwell Sports Ground. Granty’s Girls jumped the Stars with 3 goals to 1 in the opening term. From then on in it was an true arm-wrestle until the final siren, with both teams sharing the points in the end.

On Sunday our Thirds travelled out to Albert Park to take on Ajax. There were some very encouraging signs from Faz’s side, who trailed by 3 points at 3QT, but ultimately ran out of legs, going down by 28 points. Congratulations to Thomas Burns who played his 50th game for the club.
