President’s Report - 12th August, 2021

2021 seems to be a more taxing year than that of 2020 when there was no football played.

I am observing in the community a sense of frustration through the uncertainty of people having employment, businesses hurting and people in lock down not being able to travel for personal reasons, appears to be having a large impact on people’s patience.

Please be mindful of our family and friends and reach out to give help to those you feel are in need of an ear to listen to their concerns or a HUG.

This uncertainty has a far reaching impact on the operations and organising of events of the club.

With the close of the season fast approaching, I would like to recognise the positive attitude of all committee members in pushing ahead of organising, home game lunches, our annual ladies charity lunch, trophy night, and best and fairest vote count for all sides along with their usual duties of helping run the club.

These events to showcase our football club, take a lot of effort, but regardless of potential cancellations, we are pushing ahead with a positive attitude of being able to attract big attendance numbers through your participation.

Despite the on field roller coaster ride of an off and on again season, all sides have not allowed any uncertainty to effect their approach to winning football matches.

This was evident a few weeks ago when after a close win by our seniors over the top side St Kevin’s and a finals win to our Women’s team, a few hundred players and members celebrated at our sponsor The Marine Hotel.

OBGFC apologise for the uncertainty of games to be played and games cancelled due to the Covid shutdown.

The players and coaches continue to follow Government and Bayside regulations under the guidance of Covid Manager and committee member Frank Cavallaro.

On an extremely positive note, our Seniors Men’s, Women’s, and Under 19’s sides are poised to play finals.

Our club has appealed to the VAFA to extend both the men’s and women’s competition to enable enough games to be played leading into a full finals series. We do not feel that this would affect the cricket season.

We are still awaiting a reply from VAFA on details on the above.

In continuing to be inclusive and have input from players and members to improve our football club, you will be receiving a questionnaire in the next week so that we can meet your needs or execute any great ideas you may have.

From myself and the committee, I would like to extend a big thank you for your support and hope that your interest in OBGFC has helped during these trying times.

Stay safe.

“Forever Improving”

On and Off the Ground

Cheers
