2023 Coaching Appointments – Welcome Back Soupy and Josh!

The Old Brighton Grammarians Football Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Marcel Bruin and Josh Homann as Assistant Coaches of our Senior Men’s side for 2023.

Marcel and Josh joined the club in 2007 after playing together at Springvale in the VFL. They were integral members of the first Tonners side to play off in the A Grade Grand Final that season. Josh was a big, bruising key defender who took on the biggest and best forwards in the league. Marcel, a skillful midfielder and former captain of the club. Soupy won two best and fairests, including in 2013 when the club won the Premier B Premiership.

Marcel has spent the last 6 seasons as a Senior Assistant Coach under club legend Simon Williams at Old Caulfield. Simon and Marcel joined forces to help elevate Caulfield from Premier C up to Premier Division during their tenure, including winning the Premier B Premiership in 2019.

The club is privileged to be bringing back two people of the quality of Marcel and Josh. They will be a tremendous asset to our senior playing group and a huge support for new head coach, Dan Donati.

The club is pleased to confirm additional coaching appointments (and reappointments) for 2023:

  • Brian Randall will once again coach our Men’s Reserve side. Brian had great success as coach of the Under 19s before taking over the Reserves coaching role in 2021. Brian will be assisted by Tom Skewes who is taking on a playing assistant role in 2023.

  • Our Women’s Football Program will be overseen by Head Coach Andrew Grant. Andrew has been involved in coaching our girls since inception in 2017, and has been instrumental in the development of our players. Granty will be assisted by Luke Barker and Richard Smith in 2023.

  • Matt McLellan will look to go one better in 2023 after leading our under 19s to the Premier Division Grand Final this season. Boots will be assisted by Stu Kay and Jamie Freeman – a great result for our young, developing players.

  • After taking all before him by storm in 2022, Harry Osbourne will continue his coaching journey with our Thirds team. Harry made an outstanding contribution to the Club in 2022 and displayed traits of a senior coach in the making.

The club is fortunate to have such great people involved with the coaching of its players. Thank you to all coaches who have put their hand up to go around again, and welcome to the newly appointed coaches and their families.
