All members and supporters of the club would be in no doubt as to the significant impact the COVID-19 Virus has had on our OBGFC community in recent months. The impact to our community is not lost on the club and committee, as such we have been striving to get our teams back into training and hopefully in the not too distant future playing competitive games. We have been in constant communication with VAFA on likely return to training dates and game dates.
Just this week we were given permission by the Victorian Amateur Football Association to resume training in small groups of 10, we are also seeking permission from Bayside City Council to resume training and use of the ground.
Permission to resume training has been granted by VAFA provided the club, coaches, support volunteers and players adhere to strict protocols.
These protocols have been developed by AFL Victoria and sanctioned by the VAFA.
The requirement to act in a manner which is consistent with the public health benefits does not start and finish with players coaches and the committee; it extends to our family of supporters and members.
A number of people have completed the Federal Government Infection Control Training Program they include:
- Frank Cavallaro, representing the Committee.
- Greg Hutchison, Rod Cowling, Brian Randall & Luke Healy, representing the men’s teams.
- Peter Grant, Andrew Grant, Peter Trumble, Paul Hamilton & Cat O’Brien, representing both women’s teams.
- A significant number of players have also completed the training program.
On our website you will find a set of protocols which we would like everyone to adhere to as a minimum when attending the club. I’m sure you will agree with me in that the welfare of our players, coaches, support staff, supporters, members and wider community is paramount.
I would ask each person to read and acknowledge the protocols outlined and be aware of the requirements to adhere to them when attending the club.
Whilst a date to return to non-contact training has been sanctioned by AFL Victoria and our Association, as of yet no date has been set for a return to play. When the VAFA announces this date we will communicate with our wider community and advise you of the protocols to adhere to if attendance to games by supporters is granted.
