A lovely Saturday afternoon at cold wet breezy Elsternwick park with a 515pm start the boys were bloody keen. We took on a side that had troubled us twice already this year.

During the week we prepared ourselves the best we could after the council decided to do the centre square cutting off the centre of the oval. The boys were nervous but excited before the game and looked determined to get the job done. Once they got out there and heard the support behind the goals as they warmed up they were really keen to put in a good showing.

We wanted to start well and make a statement and while we had a lot of the ball in the first 10 minutes in our forward half we didn’t really hit the scoreboard. Thanks to a great goal from Branson in the pocket we got a goal late in the quarter to give us a small lead into quarter time. We had a focus on being clean and getting the ball in to our forwards so they could get 1on1 opportunities.

Going into the wind we knew we had to work hard and defend really well. That we did keeping them to 1 point as we kicked 5 goals 2 setting up a 7 goal lead. This was enough for the crowd support to declare the game was over as they all disappeared to the Elsternwick hotel. We still had plenty of support on the sidelines just not behind the goals as we continued to show our dominance as we continually kept crashing in and putting them under pressure causing them to play slow and around the boundary.

It was a bit of a shoot out in the 3rd quarter as both teams kicked 8 goals between them as we lost more players to niggles that left us with 2 on the bench. Midway through the last we had a lot of players coming off with cramp as we played parts of the last quarter with 16.

We now play OM in the grand final who knocked off Mazonod. Hopefully we turn up with the same fashion we did Saturday night and get the job done. We are training Mon Wed Thurs this week with a dinner on the Thursday night. Everyone is welcome down to support the boys.
