Reserves – Round 17 Match Report

RESERVES BATTLE BUT XAVS TOO CLASSY

By Andrew ‘The Benchwarmer’ Mullett

TONNER RESERVES:   2.5       2.6       3.9       3.10. 28

OLD XAVS:                  0.3       3.6       4.8       9.13. 67

Goals:  Hynes, Tait, Robertson

Best:  Murray, Hynes, Macleod, Rutter, Tait, M. Freeman

The Tonner Reserves weren’t able to match the Xavs’ skills in the tricky, windy conditions at South Road, and although there was little in the first half, we were unable to score sufficiently with the wind in the third term, leaving us vulnerable in the final term.

Sam Murray and Harry Hynes played with great determination all day, Eddie Tait and Jack Rutter were strongly involved but Rutts just couldn’t hold enough marks or steer through a couple of chances to top off his day. Matt Freeman was again the best of the defenders, some of whom insisted on short passing with a gale at their backs.  If you do that, you’ve got to hit your team-mates.
