Travelling out to Camberwell to take on Old Scotch, the Under 23’s were looking for revenge after the Cardinals snatched a last-minute draw in our last outing.
Coach Sargent was away on important business, so Zac Pirrie stepped up to the plate and really got the boys going. Our 2nd quarter was our best for the year, dominating possession inside our forward half and were unlucky to not score more.
From then on though it was like a script we have read too many times before, finishing with only one fit player on the bench after starting the match with six. To their credit, the boys still battled valiantly until the end but ultimately just lacked a bit of the opposition’s polish to make a real challenge.
Plenty to work on, but also plenty of positives with standout performances from Sammy Morris who is starting to look right at home and Marshall Pascoe in his first game back. Will Bullock has improved out of sight and is now a real target for us up forward. Nick Collin battled all day in the midfield, while Captain Funston and Carlson were solid down back.
Hopefully the injured boys can get up for this Saturday, where we’ll have a real crack against Whitefriars at home and also have Sarge back to resume his coaching position.
