Round 17 Reserves Match Report

OLD BRIGHTON:    6.10-46

ST KEVINS:             3.10.28

The Roscoes have copped some terrible maulings from the Skobbers in recent years, so it was a magnificent thrill to grab a second victory for their coach yesterday, when the Roscoes fought determinedly to conquer the visitors in appallingly difficult conditions at South Road.

The Roscoes, boosted now by a squad of players unavailable for most of the year, started well with goals from newly-shorn Jack Touli and George Yeoman, both goals vital into the wind.  Yeoman and Joey Dikranian gave the Roscoes a crucial 20-point lead when the Skobs were again kept goal-less in the second term.  Matt Freeman’s brilliantly crafted banana into the wind maintained the Roscoes’ advantage after they dominated possession in the third term to set up victory.

With the strong winds making scoring difficult for both sides, the Roscoes had little difficulty playing most of the final quarter in their half.  Nick Pavlou, tuning up for his return to the Seniors, dominated the match.  The Freeman brothers enjoyed excellent games, as did reigning B & F winner, Marty Ho, who was back to his best for them.  The Roscoes also had fine players in Cal MacLeod and Jesse McLean, and Tom King again battled hard all day in the ruck as he worked to regain form that should see him return to the Seniors by finals’ time.  The win was a great tonic for stalwart, Ross Stewart, who hands over the reins and naming rights to his side after next week’s final game at Toorak Park.

Goals: Yeoman 2, Touli, M. Freeman, Dikranian, Matera

Best: Pavlou, M. Freeman, Ho, N. Freeman, MacLeod, McLean
