OLD MENTONIANS: 11.8-74
OLD BRIGHTON: 16.18-114
The boys kicked off on a succulent day of football with clear skies against Mentone Grammar in Keysborough as they were looking to avenge themselves from the previous hiding. A slow start resulted in a competitively natured game as both teams were eager to run in attack but were caught out on the counter.
The productivity of the second quarter resulted in us kicking 7 goals with debutant Louis Butler having the ball on a string. However, while we dominated the play, a sloppy 5 minutes allowed Mentone to reply with a quick 3 goals to put themselves back into the game at Half Time. While the second half was purely conducted on our terms, we still find ourselves unable to produce 4 full quarters of football but credit to Nick Phillips who time after time provided excellent service to his midfielders alongside Hugo Butler, who’s effort around the ground contributed to the convincing victory. A big thanks to Declan Adams kicking 0.5, upholding our proud reputation of kicking points rather than goals. Wishing Dave Seagar a speedy recovery after a heavy knock but all in all, a commendable day of football for the Tonners.
