OLD BRIGHTON: 14.13-97
Playing against Ormond at EE gun that hasn’t been a good ground for the unders recently and after Ormond knocked off the previously undefeated Mazenod last week, we knew this game was a chance to space ourselves from 3rd and catch 1st.
With a few players overseas, a few picked to player higher and some volunteered to play reserves. We had 5 school boys playing and seeing them made me even more confident that despite the results on the weekend in the seniors, that this club is in for a great future.
Jake Turner kicked 5 and was unstoppable. Le grice a year 11 was involved in everything through the midfield and up forward. Branson breaking away from packs with speed. Phillip’s winning the ruck that allowed Hughes to go forward and get dangerous. Noske creating a contest at half forward and was strong overhead.
We dominated the first half but couldn’t convert which kept them in the game, thankfully in the 3rd we kicked straight and took our opportunities as Hicks, Hynes, Katsaras and Farrel all starting to get involved. Our backs led by Ryan, Micari and Butler were hardly beaten allowing Bryce, Cochran and Spiers to set up our attacks.
It’s the best we have used the footy all year and took the game on. In the end we won quite comfortably. I was really happy with the way we played and how we won.
The club should be proud of its culture that the BGS boys all want to come play at the club. With 30 odd players from last years crop playing this season and already big numbers turning up for training and keen to play from year 11/12 this year.
