OLD BRIGHTON: 11 . 8 . 74
HAMPTON: 8 . 6 . 54
We travelled down the road to Hampton with the team pretty confident of a win. We made 7 changes to our team with a few boys away for the weekend at festivals, also added two to the bench to try and give a few extras a run with 6 on the bench.
After the way we went about training during the week and how we rocked up pre-game, I was very worried about how we would play and it showed in the first quarter as they dominated the game and we were very poor.
We made a move in the second quarter to get Shroom and Frosty forward which straightened us up. Finn, Burns and Hicks all started to win the footy around the stoppages. Hynes also started to get into the game, our backs really stood up well. If it wasn’t for our backs we would’ve been a lot further behind, Cochran on his birthday again showing his class.
At half time again moved a few blokes around with Twal going forward and asking a few players to lift and get us back in the game. This happened with both McPhersons starting to get influential and Jiffa Harris being very lively and his typical pressure allowed him to score a few goals and set up others.
Once the rain came, we went up a gear with our contested footy and footy smarts were a lot better as we ran over the top of them in the last quarter.
Really happy with how as a team of 24 we responded after half time and got the job done instead of finding excuses and letting the game slip. We are now second and play the undefeated top team next week which will be a great challenge.
