OLD BRIGHTON: 10.9.69
MONASH BLUES: 2.3.15
Following our first loss of the season the Under 19’s were extremely motivated and determined to get back to winning ways against an unknown Monash side. Venturing down North Road early Saturday morning, we arrived to Frearson Oval with the ground extremely dewy and wet. Focused on the task at hand, the boys started strongly with early goals to Mitch Hurd and Matt Harris providing us with the lead that would only increase as the game went on. Tom Burns and Max Burt were industrious in the midfield, with a debuting Charlie Hicks straight into the thick of the action on the wing without skipping a beat. Despite a non-existent pre-season, Angus McPherson was firing early with his dash and pace at half back sparking the side to go for the kill within the first half. With Monash only scoring one point to half time, the game should have been more than confirmed, however a lack of finishing ability meant that we lead by only 38 points; a solid but less than it should have been. In the second half we continued to hold our own despite not being able to capitalise, so a major area of improvement will be focused on goal kicking and turning chances into scores. This week looms as a massive opportunity for the team to go 3-1, and with this week being a quadruple header all signs look for it being another big day for the club!
